Rennedalen is a pleasant mountain area near Hardangervidda. The hilly and exciting mountain terrain has an array of beautiful hiking trails, and cross-country trails in winter. Ustetind offers steeper terrain for downhill wintersports, and if you’re more into fishing Ustevann is brimming with trout, char and whitefish.
The grounds has been in the Trøen family since 1935. The first generation (Guttorm Trøen) built a log cabin around 1960, and ran a stable farm with dairy cows until 1991. At that time there were very few cabins in this area. A simple road to Rennedalen was established in 1965, and was later extended to new construction areas.
In 1968, the modern zoning plan of 2nd generation (Knut Trøen) was approved, and through the 1970s the development of cottages accelerated. Many of the cabins standing today are built by Knut himself.
Today the property has approximately 110 cabins, carefully developed since 1990 by 3rd generation (Gunnar Trøen). 4th generation (Stig S. Trøen) assumed the property in 2022.
Uptil 2005, scooter transport was the only motorized alternative during wintertime. Today the roads are winter plowed for the ease of tourists and cottage owners. Around the year 2000, prepared ski trails was made in the area. They are all connected to a large network of trails wich takes you to famous places such as Ustetind, Tuva and Hardangervidda in the south, Ustaoset and Haugastøl in the west, Prestholt, Havsdalen and Hallingskarvet in the north, and Kikut / Geilo to the east. The national Park village Geilo has its status because a large part of Hardangervidda National Park I located in Hol municipality. Geilo offers many and varied experiences – the better part obviously based on adventures in nature.
